
Stevie Wonder, who had left MoTown in 1970 to record two independent album for himself, was stunned to learn this. Berry Gordy was shocked to be informed of this by Stevie Wonder and Berry Gord agreed to Stevie Wonder's demand of more independence and full creative control as well as rights to all of his music. Stevie Wonder signed a 13 million dollar MoTown Records contract in 1972. Stevie Wonder received a higher royalty and full creative control. Also, he had the right to write his own songs which was an opportunity that only a handful of artists could get at that time. Wonder's songs now could discuss controversial topics like war, poverty and drugs. The album he released in 1972, Music Of My Mind was the first to be released under his brand new MoTown contract. In the latter part of 1972, Stevie Wonder released an album which today is known as a historic piece in music,Talking Book. This album included the biggest hit song, Superstition.
